About the Author

Dr. McCoy is presently an Associate Professor of Clinical Sciences at Life University and was previously the Director of Research there. His 20 years of health care experience includes private practice in New York, Georgia, Washington and Florida. He is the past owner and Clinical Director for one of the first integrative health care centers in South Florida which grew to include four clinics, a diagnostic testing company and a billing and transcription company. Dr. McCoy additionally lived and worked in Russia developing the first chiropractic treatment, teaching & research center in that country within a women and children’s hospital.

 

His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management, a Doctor of Chiropractic from Life University and a Masters of Public Health from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. 

 

His experience also includes an active research agenda in such areas as health outcomes, pediatric and maternal health, and outcome assessment. Active in health policy, evidence based health care, guideline development and best practices, Dr. McCoy was a founding board member of the Council on Chiropractic Practice which developed the first chiropractic guidelines document to be accepted into the National Guideline Clearinghouse. He was a chiropractic liason to the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on Complimentary and Alternative Medicine.

 

Other professional memberships include:  The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, the International Chiropractor’s Association, The Council on Applied Chiropractic Science of the ICA, the Georgia Council of Chiropractic, the Academy of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Organizations and the American Public Health Association. Dr. McCoy is on the Board of Directors of the International Spinal Health Institute serving as its President, a member of the Board of Directors of the American College of Addictionology & Compulsive Disorders and is a member of the Post Graduate Faculty of Life University School of Chiropractic. He is presently Editor of the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health and the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research and is a past editorial board member of Today’s Chiropractic. 

 

Dr. McCoy has extensive post graduate training in the areas of research, applied chiropractic sciences, spinal adjusting technique, spinal trauma, treatment and rehabilitation.  He additionally has post graduate training in magnetic resonance imaging, electroneurodiagnostics, spinal outcome assessment, impairment rating and is a Certified Independent Medical Examiner.  Dr. McCoy is a Candidate for Diplomate Status in Applied Chiropractic Science through the International Chiropractors Association.

 

This rich clinical, academic and research background has Dr. McCoy being regularly sought by chiropractors as an expert witness and consultant in numerous state board actions, malpractice cases, peer review, insurance and IME issues. These have included cases in both the United States and countries abroad such as Australia and the United Kingdom.
