Pediatrics Publishes Letter to the Editor

In the recently published paper on the use of complementary and alternative medicine in the journal Pediatrics, the authors suggested that there was not much data on the safety of chiropractic care for children.1 Unfortunately, they did not include the important work of Dr. Joel Alcantara, Dr. Jeanne Ohm and the ICPA.2

They also erroneously informed their readership that 120 hour certification programs were the extent of a chiropractor’s education on pediatrics. There was no mention of the pediatrics training that is part of the regular curriculum of all chiropractic programs and no mention of the 300 + hour Post Graduate Diplomate programs nor the newly emerging Masters programs in chiropractic pediatrics.3-7

Thankfully Pediatrics published a Letter to the Editor allowing clarification of these issues.8

I would encourage all of us to be vigilant in correcting misinformation on the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic and the expertise of our practitioners when it comes to the care of children.
